It is not a slot that you use to run backups. You can run export or import jobs within Backup Exec and export tapes to or import tapes from mail slot. So, when you run an export job in Backup Exec, by right clicking on a slot, it will take the tape from the slot and send it to mail slot, so that you can take it out.
